LONG NGON

Image
Ngon Vietnamese Bistro - St. Paul, MN Went here a couple months ago. Nice casual place for a simple Asian meal. Good beer. Artwork on the wall. What else could you need? A far cry from the down and dirty pho places around town. And I do mean dirty. Although, I think those places have better pho. So I'll still go to those places. Not tossing out my Wet Wipes just yet.

BOOKS MAKE COOL THINGS HAPPEN.

Image
Washburn Library - Minneapolis, MN Stacks and stacks of books for kids to pull off the shelves and rummage through and beg for and smile about and on and on.. This is all good.

DEFINITELY NOT A CHAIN.

Acme Deli - St. Paul, MN I've already said it before many times, but locally owned stuff rocks. You won't see a sign like this in Subway.

THERE'S A BOOK HERE. HOLY CRAP.

I've reached the point of no return. The drop off. All I can do is keep typing. Keep putting words on a page. Keep fucking flapping my wings because it's the only way I'm gonna learn how to fly. It's either that or end up broken on the pavement getting sniffed at my dogs and eaten by maggots. I can't see the other side of the abyss clearly yet, but I think I caught a glimpse of it today. There's definitely something over there. A bright shiny object. Or maybe a pallet shit rolled in glitter, but there's something there. And I know if I keep smacking the keyboard I know I will get to it. Before now--before today--I wasn't sure. And so I keep click-clacking. Wish me luck. And if you see a maggot ridden corpse on the sidewalk, please at least kick a bit of dirt over me so the dogs don't eat me.

HOSPITAL-ITY

Image
Children's Hospital - Minneapolis, MN My son had his tonsils and adenoids removed today. It was strange watching him go under. Hard not to tear up a little. He was so trusting. So brave. I fear now he'll never want to go to the doctor again. Can't blame him. If I went to sleep and woke up with tubes coming out of me and my throat felt like it was just buffed with sandpaper, I'd be cautious, too.

POOLSIDE DINING

Image
IDS Center - Minneapolis, MN A Jimmy John's. A white slatted bench. Vagrants and middle-managers that you can't tell apart. And the bladder-awakining sounds of a fountain splashing in front of me. The perfect lunch.

GETTING PERSPECTIVE

Image
University of Minnesota, Physics Building Observatory - Minneapolis, MN Saturday night the sky was clear and sparkling. The chill air bit through your coat. And the roof of the Physics building at the U of M was the place to be. Unless kindergarteners freak you out. One of the parents from my daughters kindergarten class is a graduate student in astophysics and offered to have the whole class up to the observatory to look at the moon and stars. We were able to see Jupiter even. It looked like the moon. A crecent sliver of light. The moon was so big you could only see a tiny part of it in the main telescope. Very cool for parents and kids alike. The telescope and dome were from the 1890's. Can't believe they don't have a better one after 110 years.
